High School Equivalency (former GED®)
The High School Equivalency program prepares adult learners, 16 years of age or older who are not currently enrolled in school, to obtain a high school equivalency credential by passing four tests: Reasoning through Language Arts (Reading), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies.

- Classes are FREE
- Classes are offered in Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties
- Class opportunities are available mornings, afternoons, and evenings
- Minors, 16 or 17 years of age, must pick up minor orientation paperwork prior to orientation class
- A parent/guardian of a minor must schedule an appointment with the College and Career Readiness Office for which the student will attend classes

- Online classes are available and offered in Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties

Built on the OCTAE College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education, the HiSET® exam gives out-of-school youth and adults the best opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge and earn a state-issued high school equivalency (HSE) credential.
Graduation ceremonies, complete with cap and gown, are held during the spring and summer semesters.
